Delay Reasons FAQs

Delay Reasons has recently been launched in our API as of February 2023.

What are Delay Reasons?

This field in our API provides a description of potential delay risks or incidents that may impact the current journey to the next immediate port.

How much delay does there have to be in order to see a Delay Reason?

There is no set threshold for duration of delay at the moment - if our systems show any indication there may be delay, we share the details within this field. Note that you may also see more than 1 description provided in this field.

Available Delay Reasons as of February 2023 include the following:

1. Vessel Detour / Optimal Route Change

2. Anchorage Delay ( > 1 day delay)

3. Port Stay (shown for any intermediate port in the voyage)

4. Weather Adversity

5. Expecting Delay at the Upcoming Port (forward-looking)

    eg. port congestion

Upcoming Delay Reasons to be launched soon:

    1. Rotation / Port Sequence Change

  • This will appear when the carrier changes the port sequence before the final destination (eg. skipped port or added port)

    2. Carrier Considering Delay

  • This will appear if the carrier is expecting a delay. Carriers sometimes make planning decisions that are not attributable to an external factor like port congestion or weather incidents

For more details on our Delay Reasons, you may visit Delay Reasons & Incidents within our API Documentation.
