Managing exceptions using the Control Dashboard

Modified on Mon, 26 Sep 2022 at 09:47 PM

With 1,000+ of shipments spread across multiple geographies and carriers, managing exceptions can get rather overwhelming... Once you have uploaded all your containers to the platform, head to the Control Dashboard to identify containers that might require your attention.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Here is a quick overview of the supported exceptions.

  • Dwell Time at POL
  • Dwell Time at POT
  • Breakdown of Late Containers
  • Common Reasons for Delay

Noticed an exception that might be missing or would like to customize exceptions that you get to see? Let our team know by submitting your feedback here.

Dwell Time at POL

The following widget summarises active containers based on the dwell time at the Port of Loading. The value is calculated based on the difference between the loading event and gate in full event at POL.

  • 1-4 Days;
  • 5-9 Days;
  • 10+ days: take note of the containers in the this bracket since they are might be departing later than initially planned or have been stuck at the loading port.

Clicking on either of the brackets will redirect you to the Container Tracking containing the affected containers.

Dwell Time at POT

The following widget summarises active containers based on the dwell time at any Port of Transhipment. The value is calculated based on the difference between the loading and discharge events at the transhipment port

  • 1-4 Days;
  • 5-9 Days;
  • 10+ days: take note of the containers in the this bracket since they are at risk of being rolled over / missing the transhipment link or could end up arriving later than initially planned.

Breakdown of Late Containers

This widget summarises late arrivals based on the severity of the delay. The value used is the difference between the initially communicated (by the carrier) scheduled ETA at the time of departure vs the latest predictive ETA generated by Portcast.

  • 1-2 Days: minor delay;
  • 3-5 Days: not yet significant delay;
  • 5+ days: significant delay that might require your investigation.

Common Reasons for Delay

The following widget highlights some of the common reasons for why your shipments are getting delayed. Portcast currently supports the following delay reasons

  • Port Stay: this incident is shown when a vessel/container spends additional time waiting at the port area prior to the arrival to the port;
  • Anchorage Stay: this incident is shown whenever a vessel/container spends additional time waiting at the anchorage area ahead of the arrival to the port;
  • Non-Optimal Route: this incident is shown when the vessel is no longer following a historically optimal route and is taking a detour from its usual path.
